Women's History Month
What makes a real woman? Is it her beauty? Is it her age? Her motherhood? Do we decide what a real woman is by her strength? Or by her tenacity and resilience?
We don’t decide. Women decide.
Traditional stock media falls short when representing the female experience. What’s worse, stereotypical portrayals of women - as demure, passive, angry or only valued for their fertility - actually perpetuate gender inequality and impact women’s lives directly through sexism, loss of opportunity, and even violence.
Modern women are diverse and their beauty runs deeper than a one-dimensional representation. Portraying women in creative media as full persons of agency regardless of race, body-shape, age, ability, gender expression or sexual orientation is vital to the future of our society. We believe that stock media can play a role in eliminating discrimination. The more we show and see each other as connected, intersectional humans with shared experiences, the closer we become.
