Earth Month 2023

Reflect and Protect Earth

Nature and Landscape Photography is as old as photography itself. From the earliest days of glass plate emulsions through to today’s digital cameras, artists have recorded and reflected the beauty and diversity of life on our planet.

Historically, landscape photographers like Carleton Watkins inspired the creation of US National Parks. Ansel Adams continued that work and inspired generations of landscape photographers through his luminous and sophisticated landscape imagery. In the 1970s, this work became the mission of Conservation photographers.

Conservation photography goes beyond just taking a cool photo it tells a specific story with each image or video to connect people to the environment and ultimately encourage action to protect the land and wildlife.

Today, with easy access to digital imagery, artists and non-artists alike tell stories that reflect our relationship to the environment. Telling these stories helps us reflect the world, the state of the environment, and ultimately contribute to protecting and preserving the earth.

This Earth Month, we celebrate the photographers that Reflect and Protect Earth.
