Spanning over 48 countries, and over 100 languages spoken, Asia and the Pacific Islands are a tapestry of diverse cultures. Each nation boasts customs, traditions, languages, and practices, marked by both striking similarities and unique differences.

Within America specifically, the Asian community is an important part of the social fabric as the fastest growing demographic in the country — doubling between 2010 and 2020 to reach 25 million people.

Despite this growth, 62% of Asian Americans ‘rarely if ever’ see themselves reflected in advertisements. Shockingly, research from UNstereotype Alliance illustrates that only 22% of ads include people of different races or skin colors at all.

The term Asian American was originally conceived to bring together disparate communities fighting for broader recognition. Similarly, the distinct cultures of Hawaii, Guam, and Samoa, among others, were combined to become Pacific Islanders in the US Census. While compiling different groups can be helpful for purposes of data collection, it can erase the experiences of individual cultures from the societal conversation.

Within the media industry, brands have a crucial role to Reflect the Real World — representing different cultures and people with authentic imagery and stories. This journey begins with identifying and celebrating the differences within broader groups.

By using Stocksy’s human-centric search filters, creatives can better reflect an accurate and authentic representation of cultures from all across Asia and the Pacific Islands. Our ethnicity search options can combine with location facets for highly specific results. With Stocksy, you can increase the visibility of the diverse cultures and groups that comprise Asia and ensure that representation authentically reflects the Asian diaspora.

Representing Asian diversity is not only about promoting social inclusion and breaking stereotypes, but also about recognizing the tremendous contributions that Asians have made to society.

At Stocksy, we strive to show the world as it is. To reflect the lived experiences of people around the world through photography and video. To celebrate the people of Asian and Pacific Islander descent, we celebrate Asian diversity.

Celebrate and recognize the diversity of culture and experience within our Reflect Asian Diversity collection.
